A new book that offers a practical overview of the governance of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) governance system by GEG Senior Researcher Carolyn Deere Birkbeck, to be published early next year, is now availble to pre-order at a heavily discounted price. The World Intellectual Property Organization: A Reference Guide is presented in a readily accessible format for policymakers, government officials, scholars and stakeholders, and is published by Edward Elgar Press in 2016, but until 18 October, you can order your copy at the discount price of £55.25.

The book reviews the origins of WIPO and briefly sets out its key current functions and the activities, as well as the role of the Secretariat. The heart of the book examines the core components of WIPO’s current governance system in five thematic areas: legal foundations, mandate and purpose; decision-making structures, processes and practices; financial arrangements (e.g., income sources and budget process); mechanisms for accountability and control of the Secretariat (i.e., for oversight, audit and evaluation); and external relations and transparency.

The book is offered as a constructive contribution to ongoing discussions on WIPO's governance, and emerges from ongoing research for a forthcoming book manuscript on the politics, dynamics and evolution of WIPO’s governance, to be published by Routledge in 2016.

To order the book at the discounted price download and complete the attached order form by 18 October.
