GLF Camila Villard Duran puts emerging nations on the agenda at Think20 meeting in Turkey
On 13-15 June, Global Leader Fellow Camila Villard Duran presented her views on the G20 financial stability agenda in a two-day workshop attended by research and policy experts from around the world. The Think 20 workshop, hosted by the Turkish think tank TEPAV, was the culmination of a series of meetings to discuss different issues related to global economic cooperation between the G20 countries.
Camila Duran warned that measures based on US and European proposals may have adverse impacts on emerging countries, and argued that the currencies of emerging countries, such as the Chinese Renminbi, should be included in the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) valuation of the International Monetary Fund. She was interviewed about her views by the official press agency of the People's Republic of China, Xinhua News Agency.
The workshop addressed five current issues – Infrastructure, Financial Stability & Reform, Development, Trade & Investment, Growth and Jobs, and two future agenda items – Technology & Innovation and Internet Governance. Following the two days in Izmir, the workshop continued in Bodrum, where participants attended a press conference with Turkey’s G20 Sherpa Ayse Sinirlioglu.
